Our History.

The Child Advocacy Center of Lapeer County opened in 2008 and was the first organization in Lapeer County to create a non-threatening, child-friendly place for children to share their traumatic experiences.  Prosecutors, law enforcement, child protective services (CPS), and medical providers all came together to this single location to collaborate and ultimately reduce the number of times the child would have to share and relive their story.

In 2009 the organization joined with other local agencies, including the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Coalition with SANE-SART Services of Lapeer County and the Lapeer County Council for Children.  These connections allowed the center to provide emergency and scheduled forensic medical examinations for adult and child victims of sexual assault with SANE-SART and also begin a prevention program within the community.
