“Growing through what we’ve been through”

TIPS Group

Trauma-Informed Parent/Caregiver Support Group

This group provides a supportive, judgment-free space for parents and caregivers of children who have experienced trauma, abuse, or significant stress. The group focuses on helping caregivers better understand trauma, strengthen coping skills, and feel less alone in their parenting journey.

This is a support and psychoeducation group, not individual therapy. Caregivers are encouraged to share at their own pace. No graphic details of trauma are required or expected

Participants will:

  • Learn how trauma can impact children and families through group discussions and case studies

  • Explore strategies for managing stress and emotional reactions

  • Build skills to support their child’s healing

  • Connect with other caregivers in a safe and supportive environment

More about TIPS Group

  • Children’s trauma can affect caregiver’s too!

Parenting trauma-impacted children is emotionally demanding and many caregivers experience:

    • Exhaustion or burnout

    • Felling helpless or ineffective

    • Secondary or vicarious trauma

These reaction are common—not personal failures.

    1. What trauma is and what it isn’t

    2. How trauma shows up in children at different ages

    3. Why behaviors make sense through a trauma lens

    4. How caregivers support healing—for the child and themselves

Understanding trauma helps replace confusion with clarity.

  • To ensure a positive group outcome, members must meet the following criteria:

    • Parents/Caregivers of children who have experienced trauma (e.g., medical trauma, domestic violence exposure, loss, abuse, neglect, accidents, etc.)

    • Willingness to engage in a group setting and participate in reflective discussion

    • Openness to learning trauma-informed, attachment-based, and regulation-focused parenting strategies

    • Agreement to follow group norms related to confidentiality, respectful communication, and voluntary participation

    • Ability to commit to attending the majority of the 4 weekly sessions.

To help create a safe and supportive space for everyone, this group is best suited for caregivers who are not currently in a acute mental health crisis. If you are experiencing severe symptoms or immediate safety concerns, we encourage connecting with individual or crisis support services before joining the group.
